Kenyan Government set to manufacture and distribute for free alcohol-based sanitizers

In its bid to contain the further spread of Covid_19 which is now a world pandemic, the government of Kenya will manufacture alcohol-based sanitizers and distribute them to the public fro free.

In a statement dated 18th March 2020, the government made it clear that to this end, several corporations in the oil industry have volunteered to produce alcohol-based sanitizers for distribution for free to the general public.

“The Government is desirous of distributing affordable sanitizers to the general public. To this end, corporations in the oil industry have volunteered to produce alcohol based sanitizera for distribution for free to the general public.” Office of the President.

Purpose of the communication

The communication from the office of the President was purposely released to instruct members of the Multi-Agency Team (MAT) to urgently;

  1. Identify all ethanol held under any offences at the various ports of entry and Customs areas in the Republic of Kenya.
  2. Release the said ethanol to Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) under the MAT Framework.

KPC will then liaise with willing companies to produce sanitizers.

State of Corona Virus in Kenya

Kenya has now recorded up to 7 cases of Corona Virus, only three days after the first case was reported. All the cases reported in Kenya are said to be imported cases.
