4 officials of Homabay county assembly arrested |the campus magazine

Four officials of the Homabay county assembly have been arrested. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission through a press statement confirmed the arrest of;

  1. Caroline Sang- Principal Finance Officer
  2. Edwin Omondi- Senior Accounts Controller
  3. Michael Owino Oooro- Former Majority Leader
  4. Isaac Ouso Nyandege- Former Minority Leader
  5. Judith Akinyi Omongi- Currently nominated member of the County Assembly and former County Assembly Board Member

The five were arrested over allegations that they misappropriated Ksh.26, 872, 278 (twenty six million, eight hundred seventy two thousand, two hundred and seventy eight) through fraudulent payment of allowances.

 

The Commission carried out investigations and came up with a report which they forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions who after going through it concluded that the alleged should be arrested and be alligned in court over five offences among them;

  • Conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption
  • Unlawful acquisition of public property
  •  Abuse of office
  •  Breach of trust
  • Fraudulent payment from public revenue

Among the suspects are also Otieno Bob Kephas , County Assembly Clerk and Maurice Odiwour Amek, Senior Accountant who are being pursued by the investigators.

 

The five suspects arrested are currently being held at the Homabay Police station and will be charged in the Anti-Corruption court Homabay on 17th August, 2018
